This month of October 2014 marks the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution in Jazz, organized by trumpeter Bill Dixon in New York City. The goal was to provide a platform for musicians dedicated performing original and improvised music, but were not able to find steady work in this approach. It ultimately lead to the creation of the Jazz Composer’s Guild and was another important statement in organizing musicians and artists in practicing self-determination in their artistic careers and in the community.

For this performance, musicians from DC, with a few special guests from New York City will collaborate in a series of duo performances. This is in recognition of a historical event, showcasing a community of musicians who have been influenced by the October Revolution.

Musicians include Ras Moshe, Sohrab Saadat Ladjevardi (SoSaLa DC music collective), Kamyar Arsani (SoSaLa DC music collective), Brian Settles, Aaron Martin, Jamal Moore, Jeron White, Warren “Trae” Cruddop III (SoSaLa DC music collective), Luke Stewart (SoSaLa DC music collective), Nate Scheible, and more!

The duo Sohrab Saadat Ladjevardi (tenor sax and vocals) and Kamyar Arsani (daf, percussion and vocals) will perform nu world trash music, oriental music meets jazz meets improv meets music activism!

This is the first time that Sohrab and AF THE NAYSAYER will be on stage together. They have never met each other, but last year when Sohrab was touring with SoSaLa New Orleans, there was one show planed but canceled later in which they were supposed to share the stage.

Sohrab’s nu world trash will meet AF THE NEYSAYER‘s electronic hip-hop/rap jazz fusion/ trip hop electro/hip hop alternative rap/glitch hip-hop instrumental Los Angeles…

Besides AF THE NAYSAYER following units are appearing: JB Nimble, Slomile Swift, Prism House, September Residency: Skyes and Dan Dillinger.

About AF THE NAYSAYER

A native of California,  AF THE NAYSAYER (born Amahl Abdul-Khaliq) now splits his time between the towns of Lake Charles, La. and the boisterous New Orleans where he has become an indispensable part of the Crescent City’s burgeoning electronic producer scene.

Despite flying under the radar outside of the New Orleans and Baton Rouge areas – except for gaining a growing cult following through releasing music featured in a string of BMX videos – AF THE NAYSAYER has produced laid back, funky beats for several years, always eclectic and never sacrificing tonal complexity or elaboration in search for rhythm.” The subtle complexity of AF’s production is displayed in lush, ethereal synths that speak to the inner essence of the individual as his well thought out percussion sweeps the listener to a dimension his sonic aesthetic creates for her to hide in.
